Jason was born in Lafayette, Indiana, but grew up in Brownsburg. He always knew he wanted to become a lawyer. He attended Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis and graduated in 1993. Jason started college at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana and eventually transferred and graduated from Loyola University New Orleans. While attending Loyola University New Orleans, he worked in the Loyola University Archives and at the Loyola University School of Law.

After working as a partner at the firm of Yosha Cook Shartzer & Tisch, alongside trial legend, Louis “Buddy” Yosha for nearly 13 years, Jason decided to start his own firm. Having represented personal injury victims for more than a decade, he likes the idea of representing individuals against large insurance companies and giant corporations to give them an equal chance at justice. As a seasoned litigator, he has conducted jury trials on a regular basis, earning himself a local reputation as a fierce advocate in the courtroom on behalf of his clients, along with many prestigious awards and honors along the way. His accolades include an AV-rating (the highest rating an attorney can earn) from Martindale-Hubbell. He was also named in the “Top 40 Litigation Lawyers Under 40” multiple years running, as well as the “Top 100 Trial Lawyers” by The National Trial Lawyers in 2014, a Rising Star by Super Lawyers multiple years, and a Distinguished Fellow recipient from the Indianapolis Bar Foundation in 2014.

Mr. Shartzer currently sits on the Brebeuf Alumni Board of Directors, as well as the Board of Directors for the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association.

Jason takes every case seriously, big or small, and he is not afraid to try a case, big or small. Every client receives the same level of attention, service, and commitment.

Previous experience

While attending colleges in New Orleans, Jason did an internship with the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana. During that time, he gained valuable experience and saw how the ACLU protects people’s constitutional rights.

When Jason was in law school, he did an internship at Irwin & Sidiropolous, a personal injury law firm located in San Diego, California. He was introduced to the civil justice system and gleaned a basic understanding of what is involved in protecting rights of injured individuals, which would later become his life’s work.

Arbitration and mediation background

Jason worked at the American Arbitration Association as the mediation coordinator for San Diego and Orange County, California. He became very familiar with the alternative dispute resolution process by working with many mediators and arbitrators throughout the State of California. He assisted arbitrators, which included the drafting of arbitration awards. After his stint at American Arbitration Association, he went to work for the San Diego Superior Court Mediation Pilot Program. Working in the ADR arena inspired Jason to complete a mediator training program which allowed him to act as a mediator in the State of California. He mediated many small claims cases as part of his training.

Indianapolis trial attorney

In 2002, Jason returned to Indianapolis to complete his last two classes at Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis. While taking these courses, he obtained a summer internship as a law clerk for Buddy Yosha. Upon completing law school, he sat for the Indiana Bar at the first available opportunity and passed it, at which time he began working as an attorney for the firm of Yosha Cook Shartzer & Tisch.

Given Jason’s age, he has gained a vast amount of jury trial experience (and success) in his career. Jason gets a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment from helping injured people get what they are entitled from insurance companies who are not always willing to give it to them.
